* The association between the type of unit and the car manufacturer is accurate in most but NOT all cases. For example, the engines for some Ford cars were made in Europe and may use the ISO protocol. Similarly, some Mazda cars use Ford engines and may use the PWM protocol. The same holds for other manufacturers. The correct protocol must be determined prior to purchase.

The ScanTool.net OBD2 interface above can be used with the free software provided to turn your laptop or desktop computer into a fairly sophisticated automotive diagnostic system. The software has a built-in database of more than 3000 trouble codes and allows you to read and erase stored trouble codes and oxygen test results, turn off the MIL ("Check Engine" light) and display real time sensor data.

ScanTool.net OBD2 Software for ElmScan is a free program that allows you to use your PC and a hardware interface to get the information from your car's computer. The program is user-friendly and very easy to install.

Simply extract the files into a folder on your computer hard drive, and you are ready to go. To uninstall the program, simply delete the entire contents of the folder where the program resides.

The software is available in two languages - English and German, and supports two platforms - Windows and DOS.

You can also use the free OBDII-ScanMaster software program with your OBD2 hardware.
